"Leave it to me!"
- G Red

G Red is Gotcha Borg number 1. He is a Machine Borg and the partner borg of the game's protagonist, Kou. Despite his powered-down state, he's come to Earth to stop the Galactic Emperor's plans of domination and destruction with the help of any GF Commanders who will ally with him and his team known as Gotcha Force. After regaining his lost data, he transforms into Neo G Red.

Analysis / Gameplay Tips[]

Due to G Red's role as the first borg the player gets, he generally does well in most if not all combat scenarios, aptly being called an almighty type. While he lacks the large blade wielded by his powered-up counterpart, Neo G Red, his swift attacks and great moveset make him formidable.

Using this Borg[]

G Red's moveset has many attacks that can chain large combos of attack hits. While this is great for keeping an opponent juggled, in place, or generally vulnerable for extra damage, the gradual diminishing return of each hit's damage in a combo often makes utilizing high-damaging moves from the get-go more effective when possible than trying to chain attacks into each other. This makes, for instance, leading with a G Crash very effective at both stunning and damaging many CPU enemies due to its high damage and long attack duration counting for many hits, often also leading to an opening for a second G Crash or other attack. In general, though, his variety of solid attack options make for a number of viable ways to deal with the large roster of borgs the player may face off against.

A few basic tips for using some of G Red's attacks are as follows:

  • Due to G Red's G Buster attack being a charged attack, it can be charged while actively attacking an opponent with something else. This makes it useful in performing an easy and reliable combo coming in from a G Crash by simply charging the attack while the G Crash is damaging the target and releasing the attack once the G Crash attack is over while the target is still vulnerable before landing.
  • G Red's G Buster attack can damage enemies through stage geometry, making it very useful if the player is in a tough situation on a stage containing spots that can be used as cover. If G Red's HP is low, for instance, hiding and using a G Buster can usually be a surefire way to take out or at least damage some remaining opponents regardless of player skill.
  • While some CPU enemies may dodge melee attacks fairly well, they tend to have a harder time dodging G Red's G Crash attack, making it often a good lead-in move.
  • If an enemy is far away or actively trying to gain distance away from the player, G Red's G Crash can allow him to traverse long distances fairly quickly due to its forward momentum and close the gap to reach his target. This is useful especially when G Red's boost jump gauge is empty or he is otherwise unable to move normally. This can often be used to extend combos when an enemy is flung very far away with a previous attack or as an alternative method to evade enemy attacks.

Fighting this Borg[]

G Red is never fought against during the course of the game's story, however he may be selected as an opponent either by a CPU or by a player within versus mode. Due to G Red's many powerful close-range options, it may be beneficial to keep distance and try attacking with ranged options or attacks that will stun G Red and prevent him from attacking or moving. His G Crash attack homes in very well at or around melee range and can generally act as an offensive shield against many attacks, making approach during this attack risky. Well-timed or rapid dodging is often necessary to avoid getting hit by G Red and potentially locked into massive chains of attack hits.

How to Get this Borg[]

You start the game with G Red, but lose him after "The decisive battle! Defeat the Dark Knight". You can get more G Reds by beating certain Story Mode plays for the first time:

  • Play 3: regular G Red
  • Play 4: alternate G Red
  • Play 5: clear G Red
  • Play 6: silver G Red
  • Play 7: gold G Red
  • Play 8: shadow G Red

These G Reds and the one you start with cannot be deleted or traded.

The force sequence for G Red is 1,3,5,10,11.

Trivia[]

  • G Red's powered-up second form was at one point going to be either Machine Red or Cyber Machine Seiryu. This was ultimately scrapped both due to how much more detailed G Red's design was in comparison to the two and due to the transition from G Red's size up to something so big being deemed overkill.
