Sapphire Knight is Gotcha Borg number 155. He is a Knight Borg clad in blue armor who wields a lance and shield and uses beam-based attacks. His counterpart is Ruby Knight.

Description[]

The Sapphire Knight has armor with a deep blue sheen, and carries a BEAM LANCE. His MEGA LANCE BEAM can penetrate anything, so there's no place for enemies to hide!

Play-Style[]

This borg seems to be a relatively hard opponent and often gets paired up with Ruby Knight in Story Mode to put pressure on the player. His ranged attacks shoot lasers, and his special shot is a screen-move laser that can pass through the stage. His melee attacks are very similar to Ruby Knight's in that they revolve around the usage of his lance via jabs and thrusts. Like some other Knight Borgs, the shield on his left arm is able to block attacks if they hit it straight on. This makes approaching Sapphire Knight to land attacks often require moving to a side that is unprotected or taking advantage of an opening made by Sapphire Knight's own attacks.

In the player's hands, his boost jump movement makes dodging enemy attacks fairly easy relative to some other borgs, and his shot attacks are easily able to put pressure on a lot of borgs. His screen move "MEGA BEAM LANCE" is useful for attacking opponents that aren't actively dodging or have been stunned, and its ability to penetrate through the stage makes hiding from enemies a generally viable strategy in risky matchups, however it leaves Sapphire Knight open and vulnerable to attacks during and after its execution. Up close, Sapphire Knight's melee attacks generally behave somewhat standard but can attack multiple times in quick succession in certain instances. If directly above an opponent as well, Sapphire Knight's melee attack will execute as a downward thrust, which can deal a decent amount of damage with the drawback of being slow to execute. This makes his melee attacks risky, but rewarding, moves to land.
